Australia’s Economic Accelerator – Program Update

Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) was a significant, targeted investment to strengthen Australia’s research commercialisation system and support the translation of research into real‑world economic and social benefits.

Since commencing in 2023, more than $240 million has been committed to support over 400 research commercialisation projects, building capability, partnerships, and impact across national priority areas.

As part of the Australian Government’s commitment to responsible economic management and essential Budget repair, funding for new projects through AEA will not continue beyond the 2025–26 financial year. This decision enables existing AEA projects to be delivered in full, consistent with committed funding.

All current AEA grants will continue unchanged, including milestones, payments, and reporting requirements.

The Government continues to make substantial, long-term investments in research and development, recognising research as critical to productivity, economic growth and Australia’s future prosperity.

Across Government, total investment in research and development is projected to reach approximately $15.1 billion in 2025-26.
