About Australia's Economic Accelerator

AEA is a $1.6 billion program taking a new approach to commercialising academic research.

Australia has some of the best universities in the world. Researchers at our universities are working on ideas that could shape the nation and transform lives for the better. AEA will help to achieve this by supporting the journey from cutting-edge research to the products and services of the future.

Priority research areas

To receive AEA funding, projects must be in one of the Australian Government identified priority areas of the economy, outlined in the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (Priority Areas) Declaration 2023.

These are:

Agriculture forestry and fisheries
Medical science
Renewables & low emissions tech
Defence capability

Enabling capabilities

Within the above priorities, individual rounds of AEA grants may prioritise projects that align with particular AEA Focus Areas. For more information on current Focus Areas see the AEA Advisory Board's Annual Investment Plan 2024-25

Who we are

It cuts through barriers and it bridges the ‘valley of death’ between great ideas and commercial success.

It challenges research culture and encourages innovators to reach their full potential.

It helps Australian researchers pursue big goals by navigating the journey to commercialisation.
